How do I get to your Ireland depot? Our address is Carnlough Caravan Park, 46 Largy Road, Carnough, Ballymena BT44 0JF so you can look that up on a map to get your bearings. The depot is a half hour drive north of Belfast. There are buses that go from Belfast city and both airports to Carnlough.
Can I drive the van in Northern and Southern Ireland? Yes you can. Although you need to drop the van back to the Belfast depot but you are free to drive around both the North and South.
I have a foreign driving license. Is that a problem? No. All drivers hiring a Wicked Camper must have a valid full driver’s license (although get in touch if you have a provisional license as we can refer it to our insurers). All drivers hiring a van must present their license when they collect the van. All of our prices are based on having a clean driving history so please bear this in mind if you have any bad driving history.
If you’ve been a resident of the UK for more than 12 months you will need to have a UK license, please see the DVLAs website for further details: www.dvla.gov.uk.
How many people can travel in a Wicked van in the UK? Our UK fleet is made up of 2 types of vehicles: 2 berths or 5 seaters. The 2 berths have 2 seats in them and the bed area in the back. The 5 seater has 5 seats but comes with tents instead of beds. Both styles have a fully equipped kitchen. Please see the Features page for the layout of each vehicle.
Where can we park overnight? Almost anywhere.
Please bear in mind that local laws do apply and any violations are your responsibility. For example, double yellow lines painted on the curb indicate that you cannot park at any time. Truck stops and limitless parking zones are ideal.
You will also find many caravan parks and camping grounds in the UK and Europe that offer excellent facilities for a minimal cost. Check out the caravan and camping club in the UK.
What is the minimum age to rent a Wicked Camper in the UK? You need to be 21 years of age to hire a Wicked Camper in the UK. You must also have a good driving history of at least 2 years. If you are 21 or 22 you’ll need to provide a few extra details regarding your driving license on booking so please have it handy!
Do I have to pay a deposit to book? When you decide that you’d like to book a Wicked Camper simply get in touch with us via the above contact details. We will need a £50 deposit to secure the reservation and will then send you a booking confirmation. This deposit is deducted from the balance which is due when you come and collect your van.
How can I pay? We accept cash, Mastercard, Maestro, Visa, Visa Electro, Visa Debit and JCB Cards. Debit cards are free to use but credit cards do incur a 3% fee.
What happens if I need to cancel my booking? If you decide to cancel your booking please give us as much notice as possible. If you are able to reschedule your booking we can move it to another time providing it is within 6 months of the original booking date. We will transfer your £50 deposit to this booking. If you are unable to reschedule your booking then you will not receive your deposit back as this becomes a cancellation fee.
What do I need to bring with me? When you come to collect your Wicked Camper please make sure the driver is present and that they have their drivers license with them. We also need you to bring a credit card for a £220 bond and the cash/card to pay the outstanding balance.
You will also need to bring bedding with you as we do not provide this. All vans have CD players in them so you might want to bring along some tunes too!
How does the bond work? We require a £200 security bond to be left with us. If the vehicle is returned in good conditions, the bond is returned to you. We also require an additional £20 cleaning bond which is returned to you if the van has been cleaned throughout.
The bond can be paid in cash or an imprint of your credit card can be taken.
Where are your depots? So far, we have this one in Ireland, one in London, England and one in San Benedetto, Italy.
Please see the Italian website for further details about Italy and the UK website for details about London.
Is insurance included in the prices? Insurance is included for one driver 25+ in the UK. If you want to take the van to Europe this is an additional charge of £5 per day + VAT.
How much for an extra driver? An extra driver is an additional £5 per day + VAT. However, if you’re taking a van for more than 35 days the second driver goes free!
How much if I’m 21-24? Again, this is an additional premium of £5 per day + VAT.
What the hell is VAT? Value Added Tax. It’s calculated at 17.5%.
When can I collect and return my van? You can collect your van any time by appointment. As long as you let us know beforehand roughly what time you expect to arrive.
Wicked hires out by 24 hour periods. So if you collect the van at 10am, we’ll want it back on your drop of date around 10am too. Late fees do apply.
What happens if the vehicle breaks down? Just call us or the roadside assistance number we will provide you with on collection of your van. All hires include 24 hour roadside assistance in the UK and Europe for your peace of mind and security.
What type of van is a Wicked Camper? Wicked UK has a fleet of Toyota Lucida vans, otherwise known as a Toyota Tarago in Australia or a Previa in NZ. They have an automatic transmission and feature a CD player and electric windows!
Do you have a buy back scheme? Not yet. Occasionally we sell our campers as we add to our fleet. Please check wickedcampers.com regularly to see when our vans are for sale.
Do you have left hand drive vans? Not in the UK, they are all right hand drive vehicles.
Is there a minimum hire period? Yes. We have a 2 day minimum hire period which means you can just get away for the weekend if you’d like. Our late opening hours on Friday and Sunday afternoon hours accommodate for this.
How far will a tank of fuel get me? Basically it costs around £50 to fill up the tank and this will take you approximately 550kms.
What are the dimensions of the van if I want to look into ferry costs? The vans are 4.69 metres long, 1.69 metres wide and 1.85 metres high. If there is a classification for ‘MPV” this is the right category. If this is not an option, the van is classed as a ‘Car’. Many ferry operators allow you to either leave the Registration number blank or put in N/A if you are using a hire vehicle.
Are one way hires available? Not as yet I’m afraid as we’re still relatively small so we can’t offer this at present but keep your eyes on the website for further info.
Can I choose what design is on my van? Sorry but no. Basically we have to have the flexibility to move our vans around so it’s not possibly to reserve a specific van. However, we will try to accommodate you if you request something in particular.
I’ve submitted an enquiry via the online form and haven’t heard back yet, what can I do? All enquiries are dealt with manually by a small team so please bear with us, especially in high season! If you need to get in touch give us a call or email us directly at the address above and we’ll get back to you asap!
Do the vans come with maps? Yes! All of our vans come with a UK map in.
Do you have Sat Navs for hire? Not in Ireland I’m afraid. A quick internet search can provide you with details of hiring a GPS.
Do the vans have power and/or heat in them? The vans don’t have power in them. They all have regular vehicle heating in them, or you can use good old fashioned body heat!
What countries am I insured to travel in if I take the van to mainland Europe? If you pay the extra premium to take the van over to Europe then you are covered in all EU countries plus Switzerland, Croatia, Norway, Iceland and Monaco. If you’re not sure which countries are included in the EU here’s a list (drum roll please): Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Spain, Sweden, UK! If there are any countries outside of this that you think you’d like to go to please get in touch well before your collection date and we will ask our insurers.
Can I get a better, cheaper camper anywhere else in Europe? No!
Is this the end? Yes! Phew!
